The Pitt County Historical Society invites you to join us this year. The Society's membership continues to focus on the history of our eastern North Carolina county and to preserve through publications and programs her legacy for future generations. We published Chronicles of Pitt County in 1982 (reprinted in 2003), The Historic Architecture of Pitt County in 1991, and in 2005 published Chronicles of Pitt County, Volume II, which provided additional histories of Pitt County families and communities. This past year we published Cemetery Survey of Pitt County that includes approximately 40,000 names from over 800 cemetery sites. In addition, the Society owns and maintains the Historic Red Banks Primitive Baptist Church, built in 1898 but dates its membership to the early 18th century.
As you can see from this web site, we not only offer a wide range of programs and events throughout the year, but also offer several interesting books for sale concerning our area. Please consider joining us and becoming an active member of our Society. Your support is vital for a strong organization.
